overheard

Overheard: on pots, pans, and hearts.

I need a new frying pan.

Didn’t you just get one?

I know. But this one's all scratchy and shit.

Can I see?

It seems fine. That’s what it’s supposed to look like.

Yeah? It’s supposed to be ugly?

It’s fine. It got scratched up because you were using it.

Kaya may gasgas, kasi ginagamit. Pans get scratched up. It isn’t anything to be embarrassed about. That’s how you know they get used.

  2. you should try stainless steel pots.. you have to be practically using a welding arc to scratch them... lol

  4. Interesting.

At my shoot this afternoon, we were just discussing the very nice and shiny pots and pans hanging over the kitchen area of the house we were using.

We remarked how lovely, how shiny, how perfect they were. And then added that they were obviously just for show.

The real hardworking pots and pans, greasy and blackened, were in the dirty kitchen.

    1. Rudeboy: So if we were to abuse this metaphor then maybe the things we see on tv and in the movies are like shiny pots and in real life, things are always greasy and blackened. it would explain the amount of editing that goes on around here. lolz

    2. Life in general is a dirty, greasy, stained business.

I suppose we polish it to make it seem worth living.

      Delete
    3. Rudeboy: Wow, I didn't expect that from you. :x

I can name a few people who live through the dirt and grease, who never polish just because they think none of it's worth it. Let's wait for Oneida rain? lolz

    4. By "polish," I did not mean "embellish," of course. Then again, we can have that whole Life of Pi argument did he really have that magical adventure on the high seas with an adult Bengal tiger, or did Gerard Depardieu gut his mother and throw her overboard to the sharks?

I suppose it'll be simpler to trot out that old "Why bother washing your face every day if it's just gonna get dirty again?" argument.

Life's dirty enough. One doesn't have to be a pig living it, nevertheless.

    5. Rudeboy: Um, yeah. I haven't read/seen Life of Pi so I kinda don't get the reference. Balikan kita after I see/read (more likely na see) it. haha

Ooh... I love how we're just abusing this metaphor through and through. But what if we're not talking about dirt? Remember, these were scratches right? How about that?

    6. I'd love to watch Life of Pi with you, but considering how you're in a state of flux job-wise and my schedule is tighter than a 12-year old's ass, well...

Still...scratches on your metaphorical cookware are the equivalent of life's sling and arrows, yes? And I'll stop now because I have a bottle of wine in me and I have an early and, no doubt, scowl-filled day ahead ;)

    7. Rudeboy: "scratches on your metaphorical cookware are the equivalent of life's sling and arrows, yes?" Well, you could say that. (you could. even though i had a really shallow interpretation for it. haha)

Good luck with your scowl-filled day! Mine's just about to start.

  8. korek! love it.
we have this wok that was supposed to be non-stick, but the non-stick coating was already scratched up, naiwan nalang yung malapit sa rim. and we still have it and use it. i guess we couldn't let go of it as it was really useful.
i guess the scratched up ones are the most used and very helpful ones out there...
and i guess i wasn't scratched up that much (i guess? or baka haggard-looking lang talaga ako? lol) is because i'm not useful? waaaaahhhhh :(

    1. Sin: I read somewhere that that's potentially dangerous. Something about lead in teflon. haha

And We're all a bit scratched up naman. I can name a few instances for you, kung gusto mo? Kaso baka patayin mo ako. haha

  9. And no scrubbing and washing could completely take out stains of the past, este pans. At kapag nagluto ka dyan, matitikman at matitikman mo pa rin ang pait ng nakaraan. haha

Ang gasgas na puso ba, nakaka-cancer din? haha
